IXPN ABUJA Commissioned

On the 28th of July, 2011, the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) added another feather to its cap when its new office in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja was commissioned.

The commissioning of the IXPN, Abuja office which came into existence by virtue of a grant given by the National Technology Development Agency (NITDA) was done by its Director General (DG), Prof. Cleopas Angaye.

The event was attended by some top government functionaries from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), stakeholders in the ICT sector, our Board of Directors, our members as well as the print and electronic media.

The DG, Prof. Cleopas Angaye  in his address categorized  the core benefits of the IXPN into immediate and long term and some of them are as follows:

Immediate benefits: Creating of Employment opportunities, Creating revenue opportunities through local content and services, Provision of the National Research and Educational Network (NREN). While some of the long term benefits are: To promote internet growth and address the problems associated with local traffic routing, Lower costs for all Nigerian of internet users government inclusive, Act as an enabler in eGovernment program me with the digital delivery of government services,  Enhance the Nigerian ISPs in running  sustainable businesses. Lastly, to serve as a means of establishing a neutral forum of peering professionals to enhance the growth of internet in Nigeria which will in turn facilitate the creation of data infrastructure for the country thus preventing threats in the form of cyber attacks.

Thereafter was a luncheon at the Transcorp hotel which marked the end of the commissioning of the IXPN, Abuja office.
